Note to Linden Lab and the support staff:
The forums are producing frequent 503 Service Unavailable errors.
The problem is NOT FIXED as of 1-31-2008 2:58 SLT.
Please fix the problem, and please also do not make statements suggesting the problem is fixed.

A thread in the Linden Lab’s Second Life Forums (payment verified members only) from an exasperated user expressed the desire for a “Good way to tell LL they’re stupid”.
I’m don’t think Linden Lab is stupid. I don’t have to agree with the premise in order to conjure up ways to tell LL they’re stupid. Here are a few:
The Goodyear blimp has electric signage that could be brought into play in spreading this message.
Maybe you could get some major soft drink makers to print this on the inside of bottle caps. That would be kind of odd, getting a drink and finding “LL is stupid!” in such an unlikely place.
I suppose one could use prims at the right height and location to display this message on the map inworld.
Coordinate blog replies so the first letter of a number of replies in sequence spells out “LL is stupid!”.
Sneakily acquire their driver’s licences and put a little teeny strip of paper with the word Stupid! on it over top of where their name goes.
Maybe someone can add some more.

I present this in hopes of getting people to sign up. Novoking is a very nice looking place, but it is so empty of people.
Folks that do Maya and Studio Max should be interested in Novoking because it allows for importing things created with those programs.
There’s free land to import your creations on during the test period.

In the Hipihi world there have been many times I wanted to use someone’s name but I can’t type in Chinese.
The names of objects, textures, scripts, etc. need to be done in some sort of a multi-lingual way.
One could, I guess, give everything in the virtual world two name slots, one for the “universal language” and one for the language choice by the item creator.
I’d like to see a more flexible system, in which names of items, decription fields, etc. are all multi-lingual. I suppose the item creator could define their “native language name” and the “universal language name” and any other translations they are able and willing to offer, and set a field to allow others to add translations in additional languages in somewhat of a wiki style.
Of course I also want to see machine translation available in chat. Come to think of it, why not machine translation for the names of inventory items, descrptions, inworld ads, etc.

Hipihi has in the past had a case sensitive avatar/account naming system.
Hipihi has just changed to a case insensitive naming system.
Some existing names are thus now invalid.
Hipihi has provide the names in the somewhat awkward form of an xls file, a microsoft excel file, archived in the rar archive format.

Linden Lab has claimed to provide a support forum in it’s forums.secondlife.com site by the name of Resident Answers.
A sticky post describing the acceptable content for the forum makes it clear that it is meant as a support forum, a place for people with questions about how to use the Second Life virtual environment to help each other.
Linden Lab has now completely abandoned any attempt to make that forum be a support forum, yet they leave the worthless rules about forum content up for display.
What is so difficult about removing the completely ignored rules and replacing them with a set of rules that reflects what they actually want to use the forum for?
Today the forum has a pointless debates on topics discussed to death already. Someone is playing forum games in their responses, quoting peoples previous posts but changing the name the quoted passage is attributed to. Folks are posting responses to vanity threads that say “Tra la la la.” There’s a post asking for Second Life poetry.
Useless posts, posts that could be made just as effectively at sites such as sldrama or sluniverse.
Linden Lab could change the rules to “Any kind of useless blather is here. Couldn’t make it as a stand-up comic at the local comedy club? You can still use your failed material - here in the Resident Answers forum. Can’t handle the heat in a real verbal combat forum like alt.flames? Enjoy your lame lambaste-offs here - in Resident Answers. Too lazy to get a IM account and chat your friends in IM - don’t feel like getting email - no problem. Resident Answers is here for you. Can’t be bothered finding the free classified forums to advertise your land club’s group events? Not a problem, since you named your group with the word Forum in it we’ll pretend it is an official activity and let it be advertised here. Just feeling like saying Tra lah lah or making ascii character pictures of boobs and penises - hey, Resident Answers is the place for you.
I would think that a company would want to show a bit more spine, more focus, and more integrity than to say “Here’s a forum for support, don”t be rude, stay on topic, it’s not for advertising, and it’s not a chat room” and then just ignore what they said.

I am very glad that I have very little reason to use the wordpress.com forums.
The terse hateful responses the in-the-know people make to people who’ve asked a question the know-it-all doesn’t think is quite acceptable are so venom filled they are frightening. I hope i never run in to any of these people in real life.

Hipihi’s version 50011 brought new features but also some bugs. One such bug was that the chat wasn’t working for some people; some folks couldn’t see anyone’s chat other than their own.
Tonight the chat is working for me. I don’t know if that means the means the problem was fixed or if it is just an intermittent problem, but it was nice to get to chat some.
One person showed me a problem. They had a big box with a flash animation texture attached to them , and if I understand correctly, they couldn’t detach the box because they had given the box to someone else. I may not understand correctly, the person spoke English as a second language and it would only take one wrong wrong to confuse the meaning, but it was a problem having to do with what you can do with objects based on who’s they are and what state they are in, a type of problem that must be common when creating virtual worlds.
There is a problem with the Hipihi registration process. Registration is apparently down. It might be only the English page. I haven’t seen any more than a short error message when you click the registration link.
A Hipihi user by the name of “tdwjqkjf” demonstrated some interactive flash.to me.
The are some spheres, and I can click on them and they change color.
I don’t know what sorts of powers Flash will be given in the Hipihi world.
I saw another virtual 3D space that used Flash to let users make 3D objects. I don’t know if the Hipihi company wants to do that or not.
I’d show a video of the interactive Flash animation but taking videos is a pain. It’s great to see Hipihi’s - and Hipihi user’s - powers exanding.

In response to my complaints about endless repetitions of the following message when using this wordpress.com site and the Flock browser, Flock let me use a pre-release version of Flock 1.1 .
As I would keep doing the thing that triggered that message, another one would appear, stacking up till they knocked the actual blog off the bottom of the page, unless I clicked to make them disappear. Flock seems to be working alright with the blog, it just gives a message indicating that it is not when in fact it is, I think.
It’s interesting that I am having an easier time contacting Flock staff via facebook than I am through the Flock forums.
The Flock forums need some work, starting perhaps with replacing their weird, limited forum software with something better, like a normal plain vanilla vBulletin forum.
Hopefully this new version won’t have this error. I will be posting this to this WordPress.com blog through the Flock blog editor shortly and thus have a first chance to see if the problem persists.

Some user may find that in Hipihi 50011 they can’t see anyone else’s chat.
I am in this situation.
Hipihi staff have informed me that this is a problem on the server side, not something that we users can fix with some sneaky fiddling around.
Therefore one should chill on the chat and play with the new attachments, and see if the new grid display is useful for building or a nuisance and how to improve it, and other such non-chatty activity.
If you haven’t tried making a custom gesture or creating a clothing item, that would be a good way to fill the time, or just plain old building and exploring.
